I've been going through all the Ghibli movies, having only seen Grave of the Fireflies, MNT, and Spirited Away prior, and I recently watched Pom Poko.What the fuck. At that point, many things happened: 1) I was disgusted beyond belief. But Gonta wants all out war on human kind. I didn’t even know it was about raccoons until the opening scene. Pom Poko (Japanese: 平成狸合戦ぽんぽこ, Hepburn: Heisei Tanuki Gassen Ponpoko, lit. Tanuki have big balls! In Pom Poko, we see the raccoons stop fighting with each other over their differences in order to face a greater foe together: humans. Yet beneath its brash, comical exterior, it years to make the point that destroying nature hurts not just the creatures in it, but also endangers our humanity and what made us who we are today.
