Young Frankenstein is a great parody of all the fantastic gothic horrors based around the Frankenstein character and everything about the film, is just so close to those movies I love. Timeless. Although I am a fan of colourization I think it would be a crime to colourise this movie, black & white really does it justice. Unmitigated fun. Frau Blucher could have been a throwaway character but the reaction from the horses and her pained expression is perhaps the most mimicked part from the film.

I was delighted to find that it has stood the test of time admirably, and is a laugh-a-minute, pacy, clever and affectionate take on the old classic tale. I also liked Madeleine Kahn and Teri Garr in the two female lead roles, both of whom played their parts very well. Beautiful film-making to go with the madness. It pokes fun at the old horror movies but with an affectionate twinkle in the eye. Cloris Leachman is superb as Frau Blucher, whose name terrifies the horses.
